Manja Bhagavati Temple on the western zonal area of the corporation of kochi at Mattancherry at the site where ManjaBhagavathi Lane meets with the road in cherlai starting from konkani bashabavan in the south and ending with the cherlai canal in the north, there stands a temple dedicated to goddess Mahishasura Mardhini called locally ” Manja Bagavathi ” or ” Sindoora Bhagavathi “.As turmeric pasting is done on the image, the name Manja Bhagavathi. The deity is also called Sindoora Bhagavathi as the deity ispleased by the offering of ” sindoora” Vermilion powder, made by her devotees. It is a Keezhedam, a sub-ordinate temple managed by Cochin Thirumala Devaswom. The deity which is in the action of killing Mahishasura demon, 3’8″ (112 cm) in height. The temple is dedicated to Mahishasura Mardhini active in killing Mahishasura ( Buffalo-demon) is rare in Kerala.
